Hi, I’m Jacqueline!
and I like writing stories that mix love with magic and a dash of mayhem.
I have a confession, when I was a kid I didn’t like reading (pause for shocked gasps). I know, I know, but hear me out! All the books they assigned to us in grade school put me to sleep. It wasn’t until I was handed Island of the Blue Dolphins at age 12 that I got bit by the bug and finally realized why, until that moment, I wasn’t having fun . Every book I had been forced to flip open had a male hero, usually an old one. This was back when Young Adult didn’t yet exist and female heroines in novels were predominantly found in bodice rippers (which I unfortunately wasn’t given the opportunity to buy at the time). But Island of the Blue Dolphins did have a female hero, and an epic one at that! I finally could place myself in a story, relate to a main character. I felt, I cried and I immediately needed more.
After that, I set out on a quest to find and devour any written word that featured a female protagonist. And where was this bounty ripe in the 90s? Comic books. Selina Kyle became my obsession, Natasha Romanoff my muse. And thus, my brand of storytelling was birthed. I love complicated, morally grey, head strong characters. I love flipping tropes on their head and when supernatural mixes with romance. These are my favorite ingredients to read and became my favorite ingredients to use to write. I hope you find them as delicious as I do!
